Type 2 genital herpes symptoms are sometimes confused with the symptoms of vaginosis or vaginitis.

Infection about the sex organs is typically acquired through sexual contact and more usually from HSV-II (90%), although HSV-I causes about 10%. The virus is active during replication and resides in its generated lesions introducing transmission through direct contact or asymptomatic viral shedding on the skin.
