A condition commonly acquired through direct contact during intimacy with an HSV-1 or HSV-2 infected person. It afflicts the vagina, penis, buttocks, rectal orifice, and thighs and sometimes the mouth with lesions and other symptoms. The virus can be within the host nerve cells dormant and inactive.
