Type 1 Genital Herpes
Type 1 genital herpes is a less serious strain of herpes and is not treated with a cone biopsy.
A blood test checks for the antibody to the virus, not the virus itself. It can take two weeks to three months after exposure to HSV for antibodies to be detected in the blood. A blood test will not tell you the site of the virus infection.

The virus can be diagnosed by examination and appearance of the lesions in most cases. There are two main laboratory methods to diagnose the virus: a culture and a blood test. A swab of an open lesion is needed for the culture. Type 1 genital herpes is a less serious strain of herpes and is not treated with a cone biopsy.
