Herpes Labiale
Herpes labiale occurs on the lips; cryosurgery and other radical methods are not the options for oral herpes.
It is usually acquired in early childhood and is characterized by sores on the lips, gums, and other facial areas. Commonly known as cold sores, this infection is caused by HSV-1 and is widely spread in the United States and around the world.

This type of infection is called herpetic whitlow. Health care providers are also at great risk for getting the infection, as they have to examine the mouth of the patient.
